ReadySet Energy+ vs Celsius, a label comparison

Editorial flat-lay: a slim aluminum can beside green tea leaves and a torn sweetener packet with spilled crystals, on a matte off-white surface.

Celsius is one of the biggest names in energy right now. It's in gym coolers, corner stores, and airport kiosks. The branding leans clean, the sugar count is zero, and it's positioned as a healthier upgrade over the older neon cans. Fair enough. But "healthy" is a marketing word, and the label is where it either holds up or doesn't.

Here's an honest side-by-side with ReadySet Energy+, based on what both cans actually list.

What's in a Celsius Original

Celsius has been around since 2004 and now runs multiple lines (Original, Vibe, Live Fit, Essentials). The formulas vary, but the flagship Original 12oz is the one most people are drinking. Its panel looks like this:

  • 200mg caffeine, sourced from green tea and guarana seed extract.
  • Sucralose as the sweetener.
  • A "MetaPlus" proprietary blend containing taurine, guarana seed extract, ginger root, glucuronolactone, and inositol, listed as a group without individual doses.
  • Chromium picolinate.
  • Calcium, vitamin C, B-vitamins (B2, B5, B6, B12).
  • 0g sugar, 10 calories, 0g fat.

A few things worth flagging. The caffeine source is partly natural (green tea), which is a real point in Celsius's favor. The difference between natural and synthetic caffeine shows up in how the lift lands, and green tea caffeine tends to be gentler.

The MetaPlus blend is where things get murkier. A "proprietary blend" means the ingredients inside are grouped together with only the total shown, so you can't see how much of each you're actually getting. It's a standard formulation shortcut, and it usually hides small doses of ingredients that sound impressive on the label.

Sucralose is the sweetener choice, which puts Celsius in the artificial camp alongside most legacy energy drinks. If you're actively trying to avoid artificial sweeteners, that's the one line to notice.

What Energy+ swaps out

Energy+ is built from a similar goal (a real everyday energy drink without the sugar spike) but the ingredient decisions land in a different place.

  • 180mg caffeine, all from green tea. Named source, no synthetic caffeine anhydrous.
  • Allulose and monk fruit as sweeteners. Plant-based, no sucralose, aspartame, or acesulfame potassium.
  • Every active listed at its exact dose. No proprietary blends.
  • 2g creatine (Creabev by Alzchem), plus 200mg L-theanine, 1g L-citrulline, 300mg beetroot extract, B6, B12.
  • 0g sugar, 15 calories, 0g fat.

The tradeoffs are real. Celsius has 20mg more caffeine per can, which some people will prefer for a stronger lift. Energy+ trades some of that raw caffeine for a 200mg L-theanine pairing, which is the ingredient that turns raw caffeine into steady focus without the letdown two hours later.

How to think about the switch

Celsius earned its shelf space. It's zero sugar, includes some real vitamins, and pulls part of its caffeine from a plant. If that formula works for you, you don't have to change it.

The gap opens up on three fronts. Sucralose vs plant-based sweeteners. Proprietary blends vs every-ingredient-dosed. And whether you want creatine and L-theanine built into the same can, or whether you'll add those in separately from a scoop and a capsule.

Energy+ makes those calls the other way. Named natural caffeine, plant-based sweeteners, every active printed at its exact amount, and 2g creatine baked into every can so it happens automatically. Two ReadySet cans a day covers a full maintenance dose. Studies use 3 to 5g/day; two cans deliver 4g.

If Celsius is the "healthier than Red Bull" upgrade, Energy+ is the next step past that. Same zero-sugar promise, cleaner supporting cast.

Bring the clean energy drink checklist to any store cooler and run both cans through it. Or just flip them over and read the panels for yourself. That's the whole point.
